This little space has been quiet for the past few months (and I promise that I will return soon with a proper update), but I just wanted to take a moment to mention the books I read this past year. When I started grad school this time last year, I'd assumed that all of my time for pleasure reading would be forfeited to academic journals and library blogs. And while in many ways this proved true, I am so grateful that I was able to find time to make reading for pleasure a priority, because it truly brings me so much joy. I read more fiction this year than I have in years, rediscovered the joy of being sucked into a good series, and admitted that YA lit just isn't my thing (and that's ok).

I LOVE THIS POST! It's funny, because this year was the year I finally broke down and accepted that YA Lit was what I actually wanted to read and stopped denying myself :) I wanted to be more "literary," I think. I'm excited to see some new-to-me recs in your list. I love a good series, so I'll check out Next Thursday, and I want to read Hollow City after reading the first one last year. I have Yes Please waiting on my bedside table, and I'm a chapter into Rainbow Rowell's Landlines (not about teenagers, interestingly, so we'll see if it's technically YA). I'm already late for work but I want to come back and browse your To Read list, and what you've read the past few years! Happy reading, lady!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ashlie! I'm looking forward to doing as much reading as possible this year and I'd love any recommendations you'd like to send my way. Despite not being terribly into YA, I really, really loved Fangirl and Rainbow Rowell's writing. I actually have Landlines on hold at the library and am anxiously awaiting a copy. To be honest, I'm not sure if I don't like YA, or if I just haven't found anything that I really like. I did love Miss Peregrine's and Rainbow Rowell, so maybe I just need to do more exploring in the YA section. Happy reading to you too, friend!
