sweet as honey

Kyle and I had a wonderful time on our little getaway up north. I'd like to write more about it later this week, but for now I just wanted to share this picture taken at Sleeping Bear Apiaries in Beulah, MI.

That's me, with a real live beehive and completely surrounded by bees diligently tending their hive and making honey. It was seriously so cool, you guys.

So, so cool.

a much needed rest

Kyle and I are headed up north this weekend to enjoy some sunshine and cool Lake Michigan breezes.

View of Lake Michigan from atop a dune.

I'm hoping to finish Catching Fire, eat some smoked fish, and go canoeing.

Kyle at Platte Lake, the lake our cottage sits on.

On Friday, we're visiting Sleeping Bear Farms. I'm seriously so excited to see a real live apiary and to talk with actual beekeepers.

Have a lovely weekend, friends. Wherever you are, make sure to take time to enjoy the sunshine.

cult classics

One of my favorite pastimes is re-watching my favorite movies. I have a handful that I watch over and over and over and just never seem to get tired of them.

So what's better than curling up on the couch with your favorite '80s movie? Going to see it in the theatres, that's what!

Wealthy Street Theatre is an old vaudville theatre in our neighborhood that shows old movies every Tuesday night. I love the atmosphere of the old theatre, and it's definitely one of my favorite places in our historic neighborhood. Oh, and did I mention there's a bar in this theatre?

We've seen everything from The Princess Bride and Back to the Future, to The Goonies and The Shining.

Here's what we've watched recently...

Fun fact: I can  recite literally every word of this movie.
Don't watch it with me. Also, I promise I kept this talent
to myself in the theatre.

"I'll be right here." Damn it, gets me every single time.

Does anyone have anything like this in your city? Also, am I the only one who watches lame movies on repeat? (Please say no.)

milan's miracle run

Last Sunday, I ran in Milan's Miracle Run at the beautiful Millenium Park in Grand Rapids. The purpose of this 5K is to raise money for pediatric cancer research.

So sweaty.

It was a last-minute decision on my part, but I'm so glad that I opted to participate. The weather was perfect, and I seriously had so much fun. Best of all, I shaved nearly 4 minutes off of my Bridge Run time in September. It's nice to see that pushing myself to run (almost) every day has really paid off.

I still have a lot of room for improvement, but I'm really proud of myself for getting out there and doing something. Although I won't be running a marathon any time soon, I'm better than I was last year and that's something to be celebrated.

Here's to the River Bank Run next weekend!
